Hair Loss Treatment Alternatives
Treatment alternatives for hair loss are becoming more and more common. Most of these alternative treatments carry a much lower cost than the current options, and, that’s something we can all appreciate. Of course, we would all rather learn how to prevent hair loss before it sets in.
Assuming you suffer no medical problems, your hair loss is likely caused by DHT, or dihydrotestosterone. DHT is the male sex hormone testosterone that has been transformed by the 5-alpha reductase enzyme. DHT then destroys hair follicles by blocking their blood supply and starving them.
For many years anyone wanting to stop hair loss had few options other than expensive medical treatments. Even then, positive results were rare. It seems that the world is never short of those looking to profit from the pain of others.
The medical community then developed hair transplants, which made the outcome a bit more certain. Even so, the total cost of treatments could easily surpass $20,000.00. Between the price and general discomfort of these transplants, finding alternative treatments became essential.
Only one over the counter treatment, Minoxidil, is FDA approved. Beware of other treatment options that have not been subjected to independent tests from trusted sources. If you choose to look for other treatment options, it might be wise to let skepticism be your guide.
